When we got home, I tried to restore the new phone, and got the message "Can't restore because the OS versions are different". Long story short, they would not do an upgrade, and we went to AT&T and bought the phone there. We had backed up the phone to a computer. ![]() ![]() This is the first time in a decade I’ve been this disappointed in an Apple product, and not going to lie, it really stings.Īpple backup strategy if flawed We went to an Apple store to upgrade a phone. Does anyone have any ideas to try, or is this phone a write off? And does anyone know if we’ll have to write off the account too? Could it be broken in some way? We have an iPad hooked up to the same account and it seems to be ok for now. Someone said they’d escalate, but we’ve heard nothing from them since.Īt this point, we’re about ready to give up. We’ve called Apple Support multiple times, patiently letting them walk us through all the same network setting rigamarole, to no effect. We have factory reset and even full restored from iTunes. We’ve tried deleting the backup, backing up and restoring to iTunes instead (where we discovered the backup on the Mac was unusable because it was encrypted with some password none of us knew, even though the setting was disabled in iTunes). We’ve tried to disable most things related to backup, and there are barely any apps on the phone, we’ve deleted most of them. That is to say we can get one or more successful backups, which we can then use to restore, but subsequently with no changes to the phone, backups will fail. We can temporarily fix it for a day or two by signing out of iCloud and signing back in again, but it always fails again eventually. When this happens, Photos sync stops working too, but most of the rest of the phone is fine, including Messages. The last backup could not be completed I have an iPhone X that for 6 months now has eventually gotten stuck where it can’t backup anymore, with the message “The last backup could not be completed” I was incredulous and still hope that there is a better way to resolve this. Late last week, I once again called Apple Support and was told that they would send me a new iphone, but that my ios was corrupted on my phone and also on my itunes backup, and therefore I was going to lose all my iphone's data (contacts, photos, texts, etc) since I would have to start from scratch. They said the solution was to do a full backup, then full reset of the phone, then reinstall the backup to my iphone. I use itunes on my pc laptop for backups, not icloud, FYI.Ībout a week ago I called Apple support who told me the problem was my ios was bad, probably because it was a updated version, not a clean 14.0.1 version. I updated to ios 14.0.1, but same problem occurred. I promptly backed it up, but the problem persisted. Then my problems started with almost daily crashing which required an "up vol/down vol/hold power button" procedure just to get it to turn back on. I have a iphone se 2nd gen purchased brand new in June 2020.Ībout 1 month ago, it auto-updated to the newest ios (not 14.xx) of the time.
